After a short 14 hours and 10 minute flight from 5 degrees and raining Melbourne I touched down at 5AM and greeted with a cool 33 degrees. I LOVE THE HEAT!!!

The flight was pretty boring. I was lucky enough to get two seats to myself so I did my best attempt to get comfortable so I could sleep, but I think I'm a little bit too big to lie flat on two seats. I watch TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and then took a sleeping pill to try and get some sleep. After half an hour or so I was still waiting for some magical sleep to come over me, but to no avail. I did manage to get some broken sleep for an hour or so at a time. Next time I will take two so I'm sure I'll get 40 winks then.

Matty picked me up and dropped me off to my hotel before he went to work. After checking into my hotel I had a quick 3 hour nap, then hit the gym, went for a run and then a swim.

Heading out with Matty tonight to check out the night life and then catching up with Eleni tomorrow for a bit of shopping.

I have finished my helicopter underwater escape traing and offshore tropical survival training in Darwin.

The best part of the training was being strapped into a makeshift helicopter, dunked and rolled upside down under 2 metres of water and then escaping in a cool calm manner. Apart from water going up your nose and the small amount of fear that the window you need to escape from won't pop out it was awesome.

Darwin on the other hand didn't get such a rating. Firstly, I was undone by my misconsception that Darwin was a city of any proportion. I expected 1 million or so people, but to my dismay only a mere 130,000 people inhabit this town.

Secondly, nothing happens here except for drinking and fat chicks. Despite this the Northern Territory has great weather and a lot of exciting and beautiful things to see and do.

I will come back but I won't be staying in Darwin for long. I'll be going south for some adventure.

I did however go to Berry Springs which is about 55kms out of Darwin and well worth the drive.

Life back in Australia

Well, I've been back in Australia for a month now and have finally settled back into the Australian way of life. I'm back at work doing 10 hour days (7AM to 5PM) 6 days a week. Long hours and days, but great pay so I can't complain too much.

I have been having photo and video withdrawl syndrome lately. After 3 months of constantly being photographed and videoed I havent particiated in either for a long time. I am going to watch the Melbourne Victory team play against Adelaide tonight so I might take my camera and take some photos and videos of the game. In them meantime here are some photos from breakfast last Sunday.

Back in Oz

Well, I've been back in Australia for almost 2 weeks now. I arrived home to coldness and boredom, having been used to the beach, heat and an ever lasting flow of new people.

I started work on Monday back working as a rigger building concrete retaining walls. This week so far hasn't been too hectick. Almost got kicked off the job site due to the fact that I hadn't been Site or Project Inducted. So I was shipped down to the Site Shed, Site Inducted then I had to go for a Drug and Alcohol test. Passed with flying colors!!

It's 6:23AM and I need to leave for work in 5 mins so I will sign off here.

After arriving in to Athens Alex and I borrowed his friend's motor bike to go for a coffee in Monasteraki. A video is following once I get back to Australia, but I think it proper I provide a synopsis.

As usual, the Greek Police think they can stop us and try and give us a ticket for something. Luckily I had brought along my witt which they were no match for. Unfortunately that is all I had brought with me. I had left my passport, driver's licence and any form of ID at Christos's place and so had Alex.

When the Police pulled us over Alex was shitting bricks. He wasn't sure if he should speak English or Greek to them. This also had confused the police as the first question they asked was "do you speak Greek?" This was our first advantage!

After explaining that we had come from Naxos today and that we had borrowed a friend's motor bike (luckily it has its papers and everything in order). Alex explained that we were brothers (with different mothers) which amused the police officers. They were even more amused when they learnt that my mother was from Australia and Alex's mother was from South Africa. They though our Dad was quite the Man!!!

A few jokes later with the police offices (one whose mother lived in Sydney for 13 years) all was ok and we were free to go, without a fine, but with Alex's name written in their folder (the main purpose of the folder is to prove to their boss that they had done some work that day).

The Police kindly gave us directions to Monasteraki and we were on our way to battle another day...

Today Alex and I left Naxos bound for Athens where we will spend the next three days catching up with friends. From Thursday evening we will depart for opposite corners of the globe. Alex to England to finish his studies and I to Australia, until then it is party party party.

I should update what has been going on for the last couple of weeks. The guys (Kosta, Chris and Junior) left Naxos at the end of August to go on an adventure to Ios, Santorini and Crete. Their trip was cut short due to visa issues so they are heading back to Australia with me.

When the the guys left so did the good weather! Along came the wind, jeans and jumpers at night. Gone were the days of shorts and singlet every day and every night. Almost everyone else left as well so Naxos became quite boring and quite. Luckily I was able to find some good company to spend the remaining time on Naxos so I didn't go stir crazy.

I did a motor bike trip to the Temple of Dimitras and also to a beach called Kalados. As soon as I get back to Oz I will put a video online.

Update from Naxos, Greece

The last weeks has been long and partying. After arriving back from Mykonos earlier on in the month we were greated by Georgina last Wednesday. Along with Georgina came the wind, refreshing but strong. A timely change from the hot sweltery days and nights from the previous four or so weeks.

As usual, we went out every night, drank, drank and drunk ourselves silly (very unusual for me!!!). On Sunday we managed to drag ourselves out of bed, hire a car and do a road trip around part of the island. I will update with some photos and a video soon. Hopefully I will be able to get my photo page up and running properly soon. If anyone knows how to get SimpleViewer working or an equivilent program/photo hosting site working please let me know.

This morning we saw Georgina off at the port after about 2 hours sleep. All of us were feeling worse for wear after last night's hoorah. After the port we all went home to bed. I managed to sleep until 6PM. Along with Georgina went the wind as tonight is calm and balmy (which doesn't leave me much hope of sleeping well tonight).

I can't forget a big shout out to Ariel and Alison, our American sisters from Boston and NYC (respectively). They were a blast and we all look forward to catching up with you crazy cats sometime soon!!!!!

One final mention. The guys and I have been hanging out to jump off a 10-15m cliff near the Portara. But due to the wind it has not been safe to do so. Tomorrow could be our lucky day. I am planning on ripping something crazy moves off this cliff which could lead me to great pain or triumph. Keep your eyes open for some cool videos coming up in the next couple of days.

PAME MYKONOS!!! (Let's go to Mykonos!!!)

It's 5:54AM now and I can't sleep so I thought I should do something constructive and post something interesting.

Well, what can I say... Mykonos, Mykonos, Mykonos.

Last Friday Kostas, Chris, Junior and I took the 1 hour 15 minute ferry ride from Naxos to Mykonos to party it up for four days. We stayed in a nice hotel up on the hill about 1 minute scooter ride for the centre of Mykonos town. At the hotel we met up with Chauny and Luisa who we met in Naxos the previous weeks.

Once we were settled in the girls showed us the way down into town where we ate and then began the journey of looking for some scooters to hire. After getting pretty poor service at a couple of places, including some old hag who looked like she was coming off her previous few hits of herion we managed to find ourselves some scooters. After the usual "here is the brake, etc..." bullshit we headed off for petrol and in search of the beach and party. None of us were smart enough take a map, but luckily Mykonos is well sign posted and we found ourselves down to Paranga Beach.

Paranga Beach is pretty cool. It is, like most of Mykonos beaches, in a little cove with bar(s) running along the beach with good music and over priced food. We took a quick swim, met some Aussie guys, pulled out the rackets and proceded to take charge of the beach. Soon after we got bored and decided to swim out to some rocks where some girls were sitting and like typically aussies started ripping bombs off the rocks into the water. We took some videos of us bombing and diving into the sea from the rocks which I will upload in the next few days.

After Paranga Beach we went to Paradise Beach to meet up with the Greco Twins (Georgina and Tina). We hung out there for an hour before we decided to go to Super Paradise. This place was crazy. Awesome music, plenty of g-bangers running around everywhere to make a blind man see again. We swam and partied there until about 10PM. I have some cool videos from here as well.

The same night we met up with the Twins again and went to Carvo Paridiso to rock for the night. The music was shit. Every guy did their best to hit on the girls we were with which was quite amusing. We saw it all. Pavaroti renditions and the best and worst pick up lines going around. We left around 6:30AM and waited an hour for the bus. As the bus came we saw a fight between two guys. Then before the bus left one of the guys came back with 10 mates (typical Italian style) and beat the shit out of the other guy and his friend.

Next came sleep!!!

The next three days consisted of 2 gyros for breakfast, 2 gyros for lunch and 1 gyros for dinner, more beach, more clubbing/partying and not enough sleep. I will definately be going back again and again to Mykonos.

We were all glad to get back to Naxos. Good food, our own beds and a sense of being home.

It's 6:22AM now so I think I shall go to bed.

PS. I have a heap of photos and videos to upload which I hope to do in the next couple of days so be prepared.

A couple of nights ago two aussie girls and I took my scooter down to the supermarket to get some vodka and orange juice. The supermarket was located opposite the police station.

After we got our produce I said to the girls "jump on this is Greece, the police don't care!" As soon as we jumped on the boss of the police station walked out and started yelling and screaming in Greek "what do you think you are doing? show me your licence." I pretended I didn't understand him and asked him "what was the problem?" After a little bit of arguing we headed into the police station where he through down my drivers licence and told the young officers that these three people where about to ride a scooter without helmets, all in Greek.

I did my best not to laugh at them as they spoke about us, but managed to talk about the Greeks in Melbourne to butter them up a little bit. The boss left a minute later as another guy came in asking "what these three people are doing here". Once they had agreed that the boss had left the told us we could leave, with a smile. We said "thanks mate" and carried on our way (this time with only me on the bike as the girls' hotel was 70 meters down the road.

The rest of the night was a blinder!!!!

3 days of boredom

My trip to Greece was a little bit longer than expected. I should have suspected something was up when I went to the airport 3 hours early only to find that the line was massive and that it would take an hour and a half to check it. Luckily I had my travel buddy Cassandra-Jane (AKA Cassie) to entertain me.

Melbourne to Dubai was boring, unconfortable and long. Both Cassie and I were happy that the longest parts of our journey were over with. We had a 4 hour stop over in Dubai before the final 5 hours to Athens.

We were seated at the back of the plane in a set of 2 seats (rather than 3 or 4 seats), this was cool. Our seats where more comfortable than the other plane and we could choose over 500 different channels of movies, tv shows and music. I only hope I get a similar plane on the way back.

After arriving in Athens and waiting for our bags, which happened to be the last ones off the plane for some reason, we were greated with big hugs from Mandy and Kate (2 of Cassie's friends) and lots of tears (typical girls!!!).

The girls had some cigarettes while we waited for a bus to the port of Piraeus. I should seen this sign coming a mile away when it took almost 2 hours to get to the port (normally only takes 50 mins). Once we got to the port I had 5 mins to catch my ferry while the girls had 20mins. I ran around, but couldn't find the ferry. Dammmm, I've missed it. I asked a cute female port police officer where the ferry was and she said it wasnt leaving today. Fuck me drunk!!!!!!!!

All the ferries were cancelled due to a shipping ban because of the strong winds. I managed to get a ticket on a ferry that was leaving a few hours later. I said goodbye to the girls and boarded the ferry. 24 hours later the ferry left for Naxos. After 31 hours on this ferry I finally touched down on Naxos at 2AM Thursday 6th of July. I was greated by my bro Alex and the boys Kostas, Chris and Junior. I had a shower, got dressed then we went rocking until 6:30AM.

I slept for 3 hours, woke up, unpacked my bag and then went down the beach to play soccer and have a quick swim.

It is still windy here so I haven't ventured down to Prokopios or Plaka beach yet. When I do I will post a video and some photos.

I have a video of my travels I will upload tomorrow morning because it is 100Mb in size so I need to do it when the Internet cafe opens.

5:15PM Monday 19th July 2006, The day that changed my life!

At precisely 5:15PM today, Monday 19th of July 2006 an event occurred that will change my life forever! I have been dreading this day all my life. The day I became another statistic on the road.

Firstly, I would like to say I am ok and so if the driver, the wife and 2 grand daughters in the other car.

Secondly, I am very upset that my pride and joy has been scratched and now needs to be fixed. What a pain in the arse!!!! How did this happen?? To me of all people!!! Well, I shall tell you. I was on my way home from work and had stopped on the east side of the intersection of Springvale Road and Burwood Highway, heading west towards the city. The lights were RED, the cars in front of me were stopped.

Once the lights went GREEN the cars were slow taking off. I waited for the car in front of me to move off. As I was waiting a quickly glanced in my rear vision mirrow to see a car hurtling up my arse... BANG!!!! Oh shit... this is going to be bad. I got out to see an elderly man jump out of his car, apoligise, and inspect the damage. His wife and two grand daughters were a little shaken, but ok. My bumper, however, had seen better days. Rather than its normal beautiful black it had shades of green, chips missing and scratches.

We exchanged details, left, called RACV, then Bob to get the rest of his details and now the fun games of getting quotes, being without a car and stuffing around.

After giving my car a well needed all over detailing Friday night before going to be and doing a days work on Saturday, I travelled down to see Ross, Brenda and the boys for the night. I went and watched the boys play soccer against Lara and had the great honor to be a linesman for the match.

Only 2 weeks until I fly off to Greece for a couple of months!!!!! Yippeeeee!!!!

I can't wait to get away from this cold weather and to be sitting on the beach and eating the best food everyday!

Be shore to keep a close watch on this site as there will be plenty of videos and photos of my travels for you be jealous of... haha.

Today I was greeted with a lovely compliment on my way home from dinner. This compliment was dished out to me on my way home back from the crown casino (no I don't gamble) after finishing my $10 parma. Part of the walk back to Michael's house passes through the casino. As I was about to enter the gamining floor I was stopped and asked produce some ID. I immediately burst out in a fit of laughter which embarrassed the poor chap. With a big grin on my dial I produced my licence saying I turn 31 in 2 months... but thanks!

Thanks to Michael for putting on the bash at Strike Bowling. I was pleased to see Michael get up and sing. I was just as pleased to hear that he was as bad as I was... or maybe just a little bit better.

Saturday night was quite a busy night. I ventured out to Danny & Vic's engagment party. I must say I was looking very dapper. I will upload some photos soon when I get them off Michael.

I left the engagement early to co-ordinate Michael's 31st birthday bowling and karaoke session. Needless to say I won the bowling, but only just after some strong competition from Michael, Tony and Bobby.

Next came the karaoke. If you have seen Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" you will understand how great a singer I am! It is funny how shy people can be around friends. No one wanted to sing so I got up and destroyed many classics, much to the dissmay of everyone there.

After singing "I'm a little Tea Pot" and "Old MacDonald had a farm" it was time for us to leave. To bed we went...

Just another typical sunset from the beautiful island of Naxos in the heart of the Cycledes Islands, Greece.

Each night tourists venture up to the famous "Portara" which is the ruins of the uncompleted Temple of Apollon, set a top a small island nestled to the north of the main town of Chora. Night after night the most spectactular sunsets can be seen, each one just as beautiful as the night before.

You would not believe it, but I am a genious!!! You may ask, how did I come to such a profound conclusion? The answer is quite simple. I have always known this. However, it has been further reinforced after I managed to work out how to get the blog working on my domain name www.gregarmstrong.com.au

This is my first post to see if it works when you go to my web address www.gregarmstrong.com.au
